Stanford University Scholarships provide the following benefits to the recipient:
- A travel stipend is intended to cover an economy-class ticket to and from Stanford for one annual trip.
- a stipend to help with living and academic expenses (such as room and board, books, academic supplies, instructional materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses).
- A fellowship that is directly applied to cover tuition (at the standard departmental level of enrollment) and associated fees
- The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program typically does not cover costs incurred by your home department at Stanford, such as subscriptions or lab equipment.
- Knight-Hennessy Scholars may also apply for additional funds to help them with their academic endeavors (e.g., conference travel).

Eligibility
Eligibility for scholarships at Stanford University can vary depending on the specific scholarship. Some scholarships are awarded based on financial need, while others are based on academic achievement or other criteria.
Need-Based Scholarships

Merit-Based Scholarships

How to Apply
To be considered for this scholarship, please follow the steps outlined below:
1. You must first create an account and begin your online application.
2. You must complete and submit the online admissions application (including personal and academic information, etc.). Basic biographic and demographic information, as well as explanations of your activities and interests, will be requested by the university.
3. The following documents must be submitted:
For each institution you attended for an academic year or longer, provide an unofficial or self-reported transcript of your academic performance in college and, if applicable, graduate school.
You may use the self-reported transcript template if you are unable to provide an unofficial transcript. If applicable, your transcript must include the degree conferred as well as the date of conferral.
4. You will include a resume outlining your intellectual, personal, and professional background and achievements. One page for every decade of experience after secondary school is our rule.
5. Two letters of recommendation
6. Essay (you may submit a total of 1,750 words for both essays combined): include the following:
- Join the dots. What influences in your life have shaped you?
- How will you go about fulfilling your life’s purpose?
- What role will your Stanford education and Knight-Hennessy Scholars experience play in this?
- There are two short answer responses: Please tell us eight unlikely facts about yourself.
- Please list three goals or objectives that you are currently working toward (admission to Stanford and/or selection as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar do not count as one of those goals).
6. Video Story: Your video story must be no longer than two minutes in length. It’s fine if you only need 30 seconds to respond. There is no expectation or obligation on your part to speak for the entire allotted time.
