Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for a Monash University Scholarship:

  1. English Language Test Requirements: (6.5) overall (no band less than 6.0) in IELTS, and (79 +) Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18, and Writing 21 in TOEFL.
  2. The English Language Test requirements for Arts, Business, and Economics are as follows: (7) overall (no band less than 6.5) in IELTS, and (94 +) Reading 19, Listening 20, Speaking 20, and Writing 24 TOEFL.
  3. All countries in the world are eligible.
    A student from another country.
    A resident of New Zealand.
    An Australian national.
  4. Permanent resident of Australia.
  5. Australian with a humanitarian visa.
  6. A bachelor’s degree that requires at least four years of full-time study in a relevant field, including a research component in the fourth year, and results in an honours 1 or 2A in an important field;
  7. A course leading to a level deemed equivalent to an honours 1 or 2A in a relevant field by the relevant department, faculty, and committee.
  8. A master’s degree that requires work, typically with a significant research component, and includes at least 25% of one full-time equivalent year of work, including a thesis. A grade of honours 2A or higher is usually expected for the research thesis or project. When there is no grade, examiners’ reports will be considered.
  9. Have qualifications that are considered equivalent by GRC.
    Scholarships are given based on an applicant’s academic performance, research output, and prior research experience.
  10. Have not previously held a Postgraduate Research Award funded by the Australian Government or Monash University for more than six months.

Before you apply, you must first receive an invitation. To obtain one, you must first submit an expression of interest and/or find a supervisor willing to supervise your research. This is determined by the faculty/institute.
